Belly Piercings

One of the older forms of body piercing is known as the navel piercing. Navel piercing which is also known as a belly-button piercing is most prevalent in women than in men but that is not to say that men cannot get one done. A navel piercing can be an easy piercing with a quick heal time, but in some cases there is still the chance of rejection of the piercing.

In general, the concept of a navel piercing does not actually pierce the navel, but rather the rim of the navel in the event that one has a standard belly-button. In the event that you have what is commonly referred to as an outie, then you are able to receive a real navel piercing, but this is also a very rare occurrence. There has been the case of an urban legend which states that a person who received a navel piercing got an infection that traveled in to the liver, there has been no actual reports of this ever happening and the chances of it occurring is slim.

Throughout time, there have been substantial reports of the navel being adorned by decoration, but unfortunately no direct correlation can be made between an actual piercing and the decorations. This is not to say that the navel decorations are not piercing though as many believe that they were. There is just not any sufficient evidence showing that they were.

Today the navel or belly-button piercing is considered to be one of the most popular choices of body piercing despite the fact that there is a longer healing time and a greater chance of piercing rejection than any other form of body piercing.

Belly-button piercing entered the mainstage of current piercing choices after Christy Turlington, a model, showed off her belly-button piercing on the runway of a London fashion show, and then latter Aerosmith would help to advance the popularity thanks to their music video for the song Cryin.

In general, for most women, the navel ring piercing does not hamper in any way the social status of the woman for the simple fact that it is not visible in most situations. This is not always the case because some conservative people stigmatize a navel piercing with promiscuity and may be considered to be taboo.

In many cases though, the younger female crowd seeks to have their navel pierced, usually in less than sanitary locations. This combined with the fact that the piercing is a hard to heal one as well as the possibility of piercing rejection makes it a very dangerous decision. If you are planning on getting one, just make sure that it is done in a sanitary environment and that the equipment is either haemostatically sealed or disposable to prevent any possible complications.
